Good News, then more Good News!

I think it’s been awhile since we’ve reported 2 pieces of great news all in one day, but here goes! The day began with a call from “Auntie Meeses and Uncle Scotty” (Erika’s sister Michelle and husband) reporting the birth of baby Brooks. He arrived right on his due date… what a guy! We are so happy everything went well and the kids are thrilled to have another cousin! I just asked Peter what he has to say about Baby Brooks, and he said, “I want to say Good Luck to Auntie Meeses for having the baby!!”
The other positive to report is that Peter’s white blood cell counts, as well as his hemoglobin and platelets are on the rise… yeah! He “bottomed out” around Friday-Saturday and now all of the numbers are increasing. That is fantastic because now he is a little less susceptible to infection, and it means he does not need any kind of a tranfusion at this point. Barring any surprises, it looks like we’ll be able to stay at home for another week until we report back for Round 2.
Life is getting back to a new sort-of normal. Although I had quickly forgotten how BUSY Baby Kate is at 9 1/2 months… woah! So we might just need more help than originally thought, but we’ll work it out!! Anyway, things are going very well after round 1 and we are very happy about that. Thanks to all of you for your continued support, visits, calls, emails, prayers, etc. We can only hope that the next round goes just as well!
Peter calls his cancer “the Path Thing” (i’m guessing he overheard a conversation or two with the doctors regarding the pathology of the tumor). Anyway, we have been talking a lot about beating this thing and says he is going to beat the Path Thing 100 to 0 !!!! Now that’s the attitude! He’s been mildly active since we’ve been home, riding his bike or playing baseball outside for 10-15 minutes/day. He had a game or two of hockey in the basement with big Pete L today, and he plays Air Hockey multiple times a day. Practice makes perfect as they say, and Peter is definitely getting his!!

  7. YAHOOOOOOOO!!! Wow, is that great news! You are doing such a good job fighting that yucky stuff that got into you! Keep up all the good work, and mostly – the positive attitude. That is a very important part of you getting better. How exciting that you have a new cousin! Emily and Lily (and the Park Man) are going to have their very first cousin in April. Emily is very excited!!! I wonder if it will be a boy cousin or a girl?? What do you think Peter? Well Buddy – you have a good ‘rest of the week’. We’ll be keeping track of you when you go back to the hospital for your next round with Captain Chemo.

  19. Hey my friend –
Just checking in to say hello! I thought I would share with you a little something funny… you know how everyone keeps saying that “they think of you all the time”…. that “you are always on our minds”… “not a moment goes by that we don’t think of you”…. well, I was in the shower this morning and without realizing it – I was singing this little crazy made up tune, “Hey-hey, ho-ho, this neuroblastoma has got to go! Hey-hey, ho-ho, this neuroblastoma has got to go….” it suddenly occured to me, that Yes, Peter, we DO think of you ALL THE TIME!! (Even in the shower!!!!!)
It sure has been nice outside, we hope you are finding some time and evergy to enjoy some of these last nice summery days. The leaves on our maple trees are already turning red and gold and orange…. I guess that means fall is in the air!
We have been having fun at daycare. All the kids sure miss you, though! We have pictures of you on the fridge and Mitchell looks at them everyday and says “Hey, there’s Peter!!” Maybe if we pray hard enough, you will get super healthy really soon and you can come over for a short visit sometime. The kids would absolutely LOVE to see you!
Emily, Lily, Parker and I are looking forward to seeing you soon if possible. You tell your mommy to call anytime – we’d love to come out to your house and play for a while. Depending on what you have planned for Saturday, maybe we can come over then. Do you like pizza? I will bring some and we can have a “lunch date” if it works for you and your family! Let me know, ok??!!
Have a great day! Keep that awesome attitude and your amazing ability to fight and you will win this battle. It does take an entire team to win and your team is H-U-G-E!!!
    Love you, sweet boy-
    Jenni and family

We truly would love to help you guys in any way we can, whether it’s watching Ellie and Kate for an afternoon (our house is still baby-proofed) or doing a Target or grocery store run.

  26. Peter,
I am a friend of your Grandma Eigs and know a quite a bit of people in your family. I have been thinking about you all the time lately and the funny thing is I met a friend of yours the other day, Molly Hollway (she is my student at Edina). She told be how wonderful of a boy you are and what neat parents you have. I know if you are anything like your daddy and uncles you will win this thing. Just being around your family is pure joy and fun, I am sure they are entertaining you daily. Know we are thinking of you everyday and make sure you give that cute Gradma Eigner a big hug when you see her.

    All our prayers
Stacey (Anderson), Ryan and Greta Westrum
