Peter is in Minneapolis getting platelets and hemoglobin. As Erika puts it, he needs to get some color back. The low blood counts make him pallid and very susceptible to bruising, especially when little Kate knocks him in the head with a hockey stick. That’ll leave a mark every time.
He’s also getting another hearing test down the road. He’s had some ringing in his ears and the Cisplat drug he’s been receiving can cause hearing loss. Hopefully the ringing is just from the high sticking penalty.
I mentioned the surgery will be on January 2nd, but that’s false. It is now scheduled for January 3rd, but could get pushed later into the week. I should also clarify that the posted schedule simply states what is supposed to happen during the given week, since exact days change by the minute.
Peter should be back home tonight in his own room, sleeping in his own bed, surrounded by his custom mural of hockey players on the bench, a scoreboard and various quotes. The painting was done when he was healthy and moving into his new big-boy room, but one of the quotes, in big lettering, reads Do you believe in miracles? Yes!
HANG IN THERE PETER,
YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS AND OUR HEARTS ALWAYS.
LOVE,
UNCLE ED AND AUNT ROZ

Hi Eigners!
Pete – it was so fun seeing you and your sisters last week. I hope we can do it again soon!
Did you tell your Uncle Matt that you taught us the right way to play “Go Fish” – (“just a little peek at the cards”)?!!
Hope your transfusions give you lots of energy for Christmas –
Love,

Hi Peter & family~
Everybody needs a little refueling now and then! Take all the fuel you can get… you’ll need it this weekend for C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S!!!!!!! That silly little sister of yours —- did she really smack you in the head with a hockey stick? She is a little zambonie, isn’t she?? When ever she is here for daycare, she just kind of plows all the kid’s toys around! Sisters….
We wish you well today…. drive safely home with mom tonight… and rest well in your own bed! One of these days, you’ll never have to sleep in a hospital bed again!! 🙂
I remember the very first weekend that you were admitted into the hospital back in August. Mommy called me and asked me to run out to the house to make sure that it was tidied up… and when I was making your bed, I noticed the quote on your wall about believing in miracles. I remember feeling this huge wave of chills flood my body…. and I remember thinking, “Oh my gosh. Could that quote be any more perfect for the situation at hand??” Peter – we do believe in miracles. Your fight against this nasty disease is a miracle in the making…. and it’s the most beautiful miracle I have ever witnessed….
With much love and happiest of thoughts,
The Kelley’s

Hey Peter and family-
My name is Nicole Roberto and I am a student at Loyola University in Chicago. I heard about your situation via Facebook and many students on campus have joined the Facebook group as well to keep you in our prayers daily. We pray for you at our daily masses and are thinking about you and your family often! I hope you enjoy the holidays and I wish you only the best of luck!
With love from all the Loyola University Students
and Merry Christmas!
Hi Peter,
Wow, you’ve touched another university with your story and your courage! Do you realize how many people you and your family have inspired? You know, college can be a pretty rowdy place, and sometimes college students get caught up in the atmosphere of their new-found freedom and independence, and can lose perspective of what is really important in life. I think you’ve touched a lot of those students around the country, and helped them stay grounded with the importance of family, love, community, and faith. That’s so cool!
Well Peter, I hope that new blood gives you extra color and energy, so you’ll be ready to go for the holidays! We still of you often and you are in our prayers every day.
Wishing all of you a peaceful and joyous holiday season!
Cary and Lori Swanson, Luke, Brooke and Erica
From Marley: Peter, I hope you have a very good Christmas. And I hope you get all the presents you want from Santa. Most of all, I hope you get all better. That would be the best present of all.
From Ty: Peter, I wanted you to know that I was on the ice today shooting pucks (donning my Brainerd Hockey sweatshirt and hat). Dad told me I’m well on my way to keeping up with you. When I turn five, I can sign up for hockey. I’m excited. Merry Christmas!
Kaia says: Pee-ah, I say a prayer for you every night. I don’t let my brother and sister say the prayer because I’m two and very particular… it has to be recited just so. Anyway, Mom tells me I do a fine job. I know God is listening.
Your pals,
Marley, Ty and Kaia
P.S. Tell your Uncle Matt we love the site and want to see even more pictures of you – we print them out all the time!
We believe in miracles too! Keep fighting Pete! Our Christmas wish for you is to beat this path thing!
