Ty and Erika didn’t get as much information today as they expected. They received positive news that things are getting better, but they’re lacking some specifics right now. So I’ll post the details on the exact status when they hear more, but know that both the lymph nodes and tumor are responding to treatment.
Peter had another good day at the hospital. So far he’s completely tolerated this round without any side effects. Today was the hospital “gameshow”, a closed-circuit television program that runs in all the rooms. A couple staffers dress up as hosts and entertain the kids. The patients can call in and answer questions to win prizes, patients can call in and tell jokes at one point, and the show culminates with a game of bingo.
Peter called in and answered a question to win a prize and he also called in to tell a joke. Last night he told me a few of his jokes and this is the one he selected for the show.
“How do you make a hot dog stand?”
“I don’t know, how DO you make a hot dog stand?”
“Take away its chair.”
He really deadpans the delivery, too. It’s pretty good.
That farting cushion, oops, the whoppee cushion, must have been a lucky one! Glad to hear the good reports so far. Tomorrow is Friday so we’ll be waiting at Rosemount High School for more news. Thanks so much for keeping up this website. I know it must be a ton of work. Thinking of you all! Denise Cochran
WOW! You make fighting this path thing look so easy! You look so good (especially in an Avs jersey!) and to know you are tolerating the chemo pretty well is so wonderful. AND, I loved your joke. Of course before I read the punchline I was picturing a hot dog standing – you got me!
I was so excited to hear your good news as well! It’s always reassuring that the fight you put forth is reaping great benefits! Yeah! Someday you will be the one telling your story to others going through what you are going through right now. It will be a great gift you can give to someone.
We think of you constantly and now we know its working. Keep up the good fight and we will keep doing our part!

Peter,
What did the necktie say to the hat?
“You go on a head, I’ll just hang around.” Ok, Ok that was pretty lame compared to your hotdog stand joke. You’re a riot. We are so excited and thank God that every day another battle is won.
Good morning, you little comedian – you! 🙂 Let me just say once again, Peter- how very much you amaze me. I truly admire you and all the strength you have. Yes, Peter, one day you and your mommy and daddy will be the ones telling a story of cancer survival. It will no doubt be quite the heartwarming story…. it will make everybody believe in miracles. I am soooooo happy that your tumors are responding to treatment… that is wonderfully special news! Your amazing ability to kick this disease in the tooshy is inspiring to us all. Keep fighting my friend…. keep fighting. The end is getting closer each and every day. May you enjoy a wonderful weekend…. we will think of you often!
Ty & Erika-
WOW~ what a week! Your hearts must be singing praises to God! We think of you all often…. hope to get together again with all 6 of our kids sometime during your time at home!!
Love-Jenni and family
To the hospital staff- how wonderful that you have such fun and creative ways to entertain the kids. It’s great that their stays in the hospital can be remembered as something fun and not always bad! 🙂
Hey Peter,
Here is Erica’s favorite joke from when she was right around your age:
“What time is it when an elephant sits on your fence?”
“Hmmm….I don’t know, what time IS it when an elephant sits on your fence?”
“Time to get a new fence!”
Yeah, that wasn’t as good as yours either…but hopefully it made you smile!
I’m glad to hear they do some fun things at the hospital for all of the children – it sounds like they have some pretty cool staff there. If you have to spend so much time at a hospital, at least you have a good one.
Take care little guy….glad to hear you’re feeling well through this round, and we can’t wait to hear more good news very soon!

Pete: Things are looking great as I read through all this. Time to learn one more quality on your goal to complete recovery, Pete, and that is the skill of “closing the deal”. I’m convinced you have that skill. You have more than your share of all the other qualities that make up a winner.
When you finish this up, and all of these writings are a matter of record and history, Uncle Matt can write a book on Peter Eigner and hold a contest to name it. I’m convinced it would be a best seller.
It’s hard to imagine a four year old dynamic enough to generate so much love and caring in just a couple of months. I know there are many others in your situation, Pete, so it’s unfair to single you out, but you’ve earned every bit of attention you received over the past couple of months.
I have to hope and believe the same is going on for all the other patients who are going through what you have endured. If not, it should be.

Hi Peter,
How are you? This is Erica Swanson, I hope you remember me from the hockey rink. I was a mite last year, and I am Luke and Brooke’s little sister.
My mom already told you one of my favorite jokes, but I wanted to tell you another.
Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Gorilla
Gorilla who?
Gorill-a-me-up a cheeseburger, I’m hungry!
Do you get good treats in the hospital? I hope so! I’m happy you are getting better every day. You must have good doctors. Keep fighting Peter!
Love,
Erica Swanson
Wow!!! Great news Eigners – we prayed for nothing less and will continue to do our battle with you through prayer and love to all. Hoping each day is BETTER than the last.
Love the Johnsons
Peter, You are AWESOME kid! You have a much larger purpose on this earth to fulfill, and we can’t wait to see it come to fruition.
PRAYER CHANGES THINGS !!!!!!!

Peter you rock! Way to go! We are all so proud of you. You are quite the hero. Keep fighting as hard as you can, that finish line is getting closer. You are such a smart boy to run straight for it.
Thanks for the updates it is how I start the day. Our thoughts and prayers are sent your way,
The Musielewicz’s
Pete: Nice to see you @ the rink today. You have no idea how exciting it is to see you sitting in the back seat of your parent’s car. You made my day, Pete. “My love for you is boundless!” Do you know what that means? I’ll bet you thought us hockey jocks new little or nothing about Shakespeare.
I am still looking forward to the day you walk in to the office @ the camp. That will be an indication that you are completely recovered and reporting for work and/or training. Or, maybe you are just stopping in to get acclimated for what lies ahead before diving in to what’s required. I’ve met a lot of young men and women, as well as those close to them, over the past 42 years who had no clue what it takes to be successful and many of those had success waiting for them just around the corner.
If you take the same approach to life and hockey that you have in fighting this disease, I will pencil you in for success right now. You are fortunate in having some outstanding role models @ the camp. We all know who they are and look forward to the day you emulate those who have a commitment to excellence.
We were all put on this earth to anoint ourselves beyond being mediocre or just a “pretty good hockey player”. No one is going to do it for us.

Yeh, I know, “new is knew”. Don’t need some four year old who knows how to spell, too, correcting a guy with an Iron Range (Hibbing) education and vocabulary.
Hey Pete,
Its great news to hear you are beating the bad guys keep it up! We love to hear about all the fun games you can play right from your bed cool I bet they can really make you laugh. We will see you when you get back to Brainerd stay strong and you will be on the ice real soon.
Hugs,
